Our History

Early Formation and Growth of Hyderabad Climbers (2008 – Early 2010s)

In the early years initiated and lead by Ranga Vutukuru - Hyderabad Climbers emerged as a response to the increasing popularity of outdoor adventure sports within the urban context of Hyderabad. With its origin rooted in the overarching mission of GHAC, the group sought to offer an accessible platform for both novice and experienced climbers. Initially, the focus lay on fundamental climbing skills, technique-oriented workshops, and trips to local natural rock formations.

The formation of Hyderabad Climbers represented not only an opportunity to engage with the rugged terrains surrounding the city but also a chance to foster an inclusive community that shared a common passion for adventure.

During these formative years, the group’s activities were characterized by:
  • Grassroots Training Sessions: Early meets involved hands-on training in basic climbing techniques. Experienced members conducted orientation sessions that focused on rope management, belay techniques, and the proper use of certified climbing equipment.
  • Local Expeditions: Recognizing Hyderabad’s proximity to diverse natural rock formations, members organized weekend trips to nearby hills and crags. These excursions were both recreational and instrumental in building confidence in climbing skills.
  • Community Outreach: With a vision to share the joy of climbing, the group held introductory sessions in urban centres, often at public parks, where they demonstrated climbing skills and safety practices to interested onlookers.
These foundational efforts helped in establishing a supportive and collaborative environment. The emphasis on disciplined training combined with the spirit of exploration attracted many young enthusiasts. Over time, the initial training sessions evolved into structured events, laying the groundwork for competitive activities that would later include formal championships and cups.

Despite limited technological resources and minimal media exposure in the early years, word-of-mouth testimonials and enthusiastic meet-ups allowed Hyderabad Climbers to carve a niche within the city’s adventure sports landscape. The legacy cultivated during this phase provided a robust cultural and operational framework that persists in every modern event organized by the group.
